Slow Internet
Why it occurs: Bandwidth limitations, network congestion, outdated equipment.
Resolution steps:
Check internet speed using online speed tests to verify bandwidth.
Upgrade internet service plan if bandwidth is insufficient for current needs.
Optimize router settings and consider upgrading to a newer model for faster speeds.
Internet Access Issues
Why it occurs: ISP (Internet service provider) issues, network congestion, wireless interference.
Resolution steps:
Contact your ISP to troubleshoot internet connectivity issues.
Use wired connections instead of wireless to minimize interference.
Update router firmware and adjust router settings for optimal performance.
Poor Network Security
Why it occurs: Insufficient firewall protection, lack of encryption, weak password policies.
Resolution steps:
Update firewall configurations to block unauthorized access and monitor network traffic.
Implement encryption protocols such as VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) for secure remote access.
Enforce strong password policies and regular password updates for network devices and users.
Forgotten Passwords
Why it occurs: Human error, password complexity requirements.
Resolution steps:
Use password recovery options provided by the application or service.
Contact the IT help desk for password reset assistance.
Implement password managers to securely store and retrieve passwords.
Recommended Password Managers are: LastPass, NordPass and 1Password but please do your reasearch on these
Check https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to make sure your passwords havent appeared in a leak
Hardware Failures
Why it occurs: Wear and tear, electrical issues, manufacturing defects.
Resolution steps:
Diagnose hardware issues using built-in diagnostics tools or third-party software.
Replace faulty hardware components such as hard drives, memory modules, or power supplies.
Keep hardware clean and properly ventilated to prevent overheating and prolong lifespan.
USB Problems
Why it occurs: Loose connections, outdated drivers, hardware faults.
Resolution steps:
Check USB connections for physical damage or debris.
Update USB drivers from the device manager or manufacturer's website.
Test the USB device on another computer to identify hardware issues.
Data Loss
Why it occurs: Hardware failures, accidental deletion, malware attacks.
Resolution steps:
Regularly back up important data to multiple locations (cloud storage, external drives).
Use data recovery software to retrieve lost files if necessary.
Implement data loss prevention (DLP) policies and educate users on data protection best practices.
Slow Performance (online)
Why it occurs: Network congestion, outdated network infrastructure, bandwidth limitations.
Resolution steps:
Check internet speed using online speed tests to diagnose the issue.
Contact your internet service provider (ISP) for troubleshooting network issues.
Upgrade network hardware such as routers or switches if they are outdated.
Slow Performance (offline)
Why it occurs: outdated hardware infrastructure
Resolution steps:
Check how much RAM (Random-Access Memory) and CPU (Computing Processing Unit) your computer is using by searching to task manager - Advanced - performance.
After the above steps have been completed you should see how much you are using Ideally you want to be using 80% Maximum for optimal perfoamce.
Upgrade hardware if needed such as RAM or CPU. Sometimes it can be more efficent to upgrade your whole computer.
Every 2 years processing power is doubled by the latest technology (estimated)
Outdated Equipment
Why it occurs: Neglecting to upgrade hardware or software over time.
Resolution steps:
Create a technology refresh plan to regularly update hardware and software.
Prioritize critical systems and applications for updates based on security and performance needs.
My Computer is Frozen?
Why it occurs: Insufficient RAM, software conflicts, hardware issues.
Resolution steps:
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open Task Manager and force quit unresponsive applications.
Restart the computer to clear temporary system issues.
Update device drivers and operating system to prevent future freezes.
Deleted Files
Why it occurs: Accidental deletion, formatting errors, malware.
Resolution steps:
Check the Recycle Bin or Trash for recently deleted files and restore them.
Use file recovery software to retrieve deleted files if they are not in the Recycle Bin.
Implement regular backups to prevent permanent data loss.
Printer Problems
Why it occurs: Connection issues, outdated drivers, paper jams, printer settings.
Resolution steps:
Check printer connections and restart both the printer and computer.
Update printer drivers from the manufacturer's website.
Clear any paper jams and ensure proper paper alignment.
Verify printer settings such as paper size and print quality.
Blue Screen of Death
Why it occurs: Hardware or driver issues, overheating, corrupted system files.
Resolution steps:
Restart your computer to see if the issue resolves itself.
Update device drivers and ensure they are compatible with your operating system.
Check for overheating and ensure proper ventilation.
Use System Restore to revert to a stable system configuration.
Software Crashing
Why it occurs: Incompatible software versions, insufficient system resources, corrupted files.
Resolution steps:
Update software to the latest version available.
Increase system resources like RAM or CPU if possible.
Reinstall the software if crashes persist after updates.
Operating System Issue
Why it occurs: System updates, incompatible software, corrupted system files.
Resolution steps:
Install the latest updates and patches for the operating system.
Uninstall recently installed software that may be causing conflicts.
Use system repair tools such as SFC (System File Checker) to repair corrupted system files.
Login difficulties
Why it occurs: Incorrect credentials, account lockouts, network issues.
Resolution steps:
Double-check username and password for accuracy.
Reset passwords or unlock accounts through self-service options if available.
Verify network connectivity and try logging in from a different device.
Data Backup Failures
Why it occurs: Backup software misconfiguration, insufficient storage space, hardware failures.
